Hach Water Analysis

Hach has made water analysis instruments and reagents since 1947, and its methods are used in drinking water, wastewater and industrial water laboratories around the world. The instruments, reagents and standards are designed to work together, so a laboratory can run a test from sample to result with one system: digest the sample, read it on a spectrophotometer with a pre-programmed method, and check the instrument with matching standards.

Hach products we can supply

• Spectrophotometers: the DR3900 benchtop VIS spectrophotometer (320–1100 nm, with RFID sample tracking) and the DR1900 portable spectrophotometer (IP67, battery powered, more than 220 methods).
• Digestion: the DRB200 digital reactor block for COD, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and TOC vials.
• Reagents: TNTplus vial tests for COD, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate and total nitrogen, with a barcode on each vial that selects the method.
• Turbidity: the 2100Q portable turbidimeter and StablCal stabilized formazin standards to calibrate it.
• Meters: HQ series portable meters with Intellical probes for pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen.
• Titration: the Titralab AT1000 series automatic potentiometric titrators.

How laboratories use Hach equipment

• Wastewater treatment plants digest COD vials in the DRB200 and read them on a spectrophotometer to report effluent quality.
• Drinking water plants check turbidity at each treatment stage with the 2100Q and calibrate it with StablCal standards.
• Industrial sites test boiler, cooling and process water where it is used, with the portable DR1900.
• Biological treatment is controlled with dissolved oxygen readings from an HQ meter and a luminescent DO probe.

How to choose

• Lab or field: the DR3900 suits a fixed laboratory; the DR1900 goes to the sample.
• COD and nutrients: pair a spectrophotometer with the DRB200 reactor and TNTplus vials.
• One or several parameters: a single-input HQ meter for one parameter; the HQ2200 or HQ4300 to measure several at once.
• Records: RFID tracking on the DR3900 and GLP records on the HQ4300 help with audits.
