Autoclaves & Sterilizers
A laboratory autoclave sterilises media, glassware, instruments and waste with pressurised steam, usually at 121 °C. CSI Labshop supplies autoclaves and sterilizers to microbiology, food, research and university laboratories across Malaysia, from small benchtop units to large vertical and double-door models.
Tell us what you sterilise, how much per cycle and the space you have, and we will recommend a suitable model and send a quotation.
Types of autoclave
- Vertical (top-loading) autoclaves are the most common choice for laboratories: a large chamber in a small floor space, loaded from the top with baskets. See the Hirayama HV series and the TOMY SX series.
- Autoclaves with drying dry wrapped items and glassware after sterilisation, so they come out ready to use. See the TOMY SDL-320 with drier and the horizontal autoclave with drying.
- Benchtop and compact autoclaves suit smaller loads and teaching labs. See Astell benchtop, Astell top-loading compact and Astell front-loading compact models.
- Front-loading and double-door autoclaves handle trolleys and large loads; double-door (pass-through) models separate clean and dirty areas. See the Astell sliding-front, Astell Square ECO and Astell double-door autoclaves.
- Pressure sterilizers are simple, durable vessels for small labs and field work, electric or for use on a hot plate. See the All American sterilizers.
- Special purpose: the TOMY SR-240 retort autoclave for food and can testing, the Protech glass bead sterilizer for plant tissue culture tools, and Tuttnauer low-temperature plasma sterilizers for heat-sensitive items.
How to choose an autoclave
- Chamber size: match the volume (in litres) to your largest daily load, with some room to spare.
- Loading: top-loading saves floor space; front-loading is easier for heavy or bulky loads.
- Cycles: check for liquid (media) cycles with controlled cooling, a drying cycle for wrapped items, and a waste cycle if you treat biohazard waste.
- Records: a built-in printer or data output helps with QC and audits.
- Utilities: confirm the power supply, water supply and drain at the installation site.

Frequently asked questions
What temperature and time does an autoclave use?
The standard steam cycle is 121 °C for at least 15 minutes once the load reaches temperature. Larger loads, liquids and waste need longer cycles; 134 °C is used for shorter cycles on suitable items.
What size autoclave do I need?
Most microbiology labs choose 50 to 100 litre vertical autoclaves. Small teaching or QC labs often manage with a 20 to 40 litre benchtop unit. Tell us your daily load and we will suggest a size.
Is an autoclave the same as a sterilizer?
An autoclave is a steam sterilizer. Other sterilizers use dry heat, glass beads or low-temperature plasma for items that cannot take steam.
How much does an autoclave cost in Malaysia?
The price depends on chamber size, loading style, drying and record-keeping features. Send us your requirements for a quotation.
