Applications and selection guidance
Certified reference materials (CRMs) support calibration, method validation and quality control in analytical testing. Merck lists CRMs for applications that include environmental, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, clinical and forensic testing.
ISO 33400:2026 defines a reference material as material that is sufficiently homogeneous and stable with respect to one or more specified properties, and establishes it as fit for its intended use; a certified reference material is a reference material that has at least one certified value, accompanied by an uncertainty statement and a statement of metrological traceability.
