Shimadzu UV-1800
UV-VIS Spectrophotometers
Designed in accordance with the governing Japanese and European Pharmacopoeia, the new UV-1800 UV-VIS spectrophotometer achieves a resolution of 1 nm, the highest in its class, in a compact design. Offering an array of user-friendly features, the UV-1800 can be used as either a stand-alone or as a PC-controlled instrument.
Features
High resolution
Featuring the highest resolution in its class* (1 nm), the UV-1800 easily satisfies the standards of wavelength resolution demanded by the European Pharmacopoeia. Additionally, using a blazed, holographic grating with a Czerny-Turner mount results in a compact, high-throughput optical system. Stray light, wavelength repeatability and baseline stability have also been advanced to meet user requirements.
(*As of March 2007, according to Shimadzu research.)
Compact
Only 450 mm wide, the UV-1800 is one of the most compact instruments in its class, allowing installation in tight spaces. In comparison to the UV-1700, the required space has decreased by about 15%, and the width has narrowed by about 20%.

Measuring Modes
Equipped with a variety of measurement modes as standard in a stand-alone instrument, the UV-1800 enables you to perform a range of applications, including photometrics and protein quantitation.
Photometric Mode
Measures the absorbance or transmittance at a single wavelength or at multiple (up to eight) wavelengths. In multiple-wavelength measurement, calculations can be performed on the data obtained for up to four wavelengths, including the calculation of the difference between, or ratio of, the measurements obtained for two wavelengths.
Spectrum Mode
Obtains sample spectra using wavelength scanning. Changes in the sample can be tracked using repeated scans. Data processing operations, such as the enlargement or reduction of the spectra obtained, peak detection, and area calculations, are also possible.

Quantitation Mode
Generates a calibration curve from standard samples, and uses it to calculate the concentrations of unknown samples. Various combinations of wavelengths (1 to 3 wavelengths and derivatives) and calibration curves (K-factor and first-to-third order regression calibration curves) are possible.

Kinetics Mode
Measures the change in absorbance as a function of time, and thereby obtains enzymatic activity values. The kinetics measurement method or the rate measurement method can be selected. Using this mode in combination with an MMC-1600/1600C multi-cell holder (8/16 series multi-cell) or a CPS-240A cell positioner (6 cells) enables the consecutive analysis of multiple samples.

Biomethod Mode (provided as standard)

UK, February, 2, 2011 – ELGA LabWater, a Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies company presents a new innovative Type I ultrapure water purification system. The PURELAB flex 3 & 4 are the latest additions to the award winning PURELAB flex range of systems.
The PURELAB flex offers many advantages for analytical and lifescience applications. It allows users to focus on routine test work, without having to worry about the water quality affecting any test results. The point-of-use display provides absolute confidence in the water purity as the ultrapure water is dispensed. It displays clear easy to understand information at all times such as system status, temperature, alarms, time and Total Organic Carbon (TOC). The TOC reading, critical for sensitive analytical applications, is in real time providing an advantage over other conventional TOC monitors which provide a delayed response reading. Biological impurities such as endotoxins, DNase, RNase and bacteria are efficiently removed by point-of-use filters.
These water purification systems have all the award winning features of the PURELAB flex 1 and 2. The flexible ergonomic patent pending handset fits comfortably in the hand for point-of-use dispensing. It provides a convenient range of multiple dispensing options from proportional control (drop by drop) and auto volume to locked dispense for quick filling of large laboratory glassware.
With its easy access doors routine sanitization is accomplished in minutes saving users precious time. The patent pending sanitization cartridge makes sanitization minimal with no manual handling of any chemicals.
Both systems deliver up to 10 liters of ultrapure water per day and up to 2 liters per minute. The PURELAB flex 3 delivers ultrapure water direct from potable tap water and PURELAB flex 4 requires a pre purified feed. The PURELAB flex conforms to international water standards e.g. e.g. CLSI, CLRW,ISO 3696: Grade 1,2,3, ASTM, D1193-06, Pharmacopeia US, EP and JP. Validating the water quality has never been easier using the system’s USB port to capture the data on to a flash drive.
