If you take measurements in alkaline environments, now you can use buffer solutions at pH 9.18 in addition to the pH 10 buffer. This means better accuracy and versatility, especially with microprocessor pH meters, which can be calibrated at both pH 9.18 and pH 10.
pH 9.18 Buffer Solution

All pH 9.18 solutions show the batch number, the expiration date and have a pH/temperature correlation table on each bottle. HI 5091, HI 6091, HI 70009C, HI 7009L/C and HI 8009L/C are provided with a certificate of analysis. Traceability with NIST Reference Standard
HANNA instruments buffer solutions are prepared using very pure chemicals, in closely controlled laboratories, and with pH meters calibrated with NIST references.

Ultrasonic cleaning with state-of-the-art technology
The Elmasonic S ultrasonic units offer practically every available technical future. After more than 50 years, cleaning by ultrasound in all its complexity has now obtained a new meaning. The new Elmasonic S units support the ultrasonic cleaning effect at an optimum. The materials used and the reliable technology prolong the service life of the units. The new design combines more functionality with modern looks. The basis of nearly perfect cleaning processes with ultrasound is the Elma high-performance transducer system with 37 kHz. The sweep function, developed in the Elma laboratories, guarantees a homogeneous sound field distribution by way of continuous shifting of the sound field maxima. The degas function ultrasonic available on the new units accelerates very efficiently Elmasonic the degassing process in the cleaning liquid, particularly in freshly mixed baths. When used in tough permanent operation you will find that the new units with their functional design fully meet the demands of any cleaning task.

- Excellent Temperature Uniformity
- Microprocessor Controlled
- Cool Touch, Chemical-Resistant Housing
- LED Display For Temperature
Advanced hot plate stirrers are designed to deliver accurate and repeatable results in general-purpose laboratory applications. These microprocessor controlled units feature a front-facing control panel with an easy-to-read LED that displays set-point temperature. Enhanced electronics regulate the robust heater, which brings samples to the desired temperature quickly and efficiently. Speed is precisely controlled, and provides consistent stirring at all speeds. The low profile design utilizes minimal bench space and permits use within a fume hood. Unit housing is constructed of a heat- and chemical-resistant polymer that remains cool to the touch during operation. The spill-resistant design channels fluids away from internal components in the event of spills.
Hot plate stirrers are available with ceramic or aluminum top plate material. Reflective white ceramic tops are chemical-resistant and easy to clean. Durable aluminum tops will not crack or chip, and offer a more even heating surface. A ramping feature that gradually increases speed results in improved safety, enhanced coupling, and excellent low end speed control. A built-in memory recall provides users with the last set temperature, even after the unit has been turned off. For additional safety, a hot symbol warning light is illuminated when the hot plate is in use, and remains lit until the top plate is sufficiently cooled.
Ordering Information:Â Units are supplied with a 234cm (92″) three-wire cord and plug. A 3.8cm (11/2“) PTFE coated stir bar is also included. Units also include a two-year limited warranty on parts and labor. The optional support rod and clamp kit includes a 45.7cm (18”) long stainless steel support rod, a thermometer/temperature probe extension clamp, a three-prong dual-adjust swivel clamp, and a hook connector. 230V, 50/60Hz models are also available; contact your VWR sales representative for more information.

Handheld Homogeniser – SHM1
|
 |
Ergonomic design
Variable motor speed 5,000 to 35,000rpm
Processing range from 0.03ml-100ml
Can be used with robust polycarbonate disposable probes or stainless steel onesThe Stuart® SHM1 is a powerful, variable speed, homogeniser. The high-speed, high-torque motor makes the unit ideal for most homogenising applications. During operation the rotor shaft, which is directly coupled to the motor, spins at up to 35,000rpm. The tube assembly that fits around the shaft remains static and as the rotor shaft spins, within the tube assembly, it creates a pumping action drawing the sample into the open end of the tube, or probe, and forcing it through the windows at the bottom of the tube assembly. This shearing action reduces the particle size of the sample. In addition the speed differential between the rapidly moving rotor, and the static tube assembly creates cavitational force, further dismantling the sample to additionally reduce particle size.
The SHM1 is lightweight making it comfortable to use, and most samples can be processed within thirty seconds. For longer processing the unit can be stand mounted using the included post clamp assembly. A retort stand is available separately.
The SHM1 can accommodate a selection of stainless steel probes for larger and tougher samples and also our polycarbonate disposable probes. Disposable probes are suitable for hard tissues and ideal where cross contamination is of concern. If necessary disposable probes can be easily dismantled and autoclaved up to seven times. Through careful selection of probe type, samples of 0.03ml to 100ml can be processed.
All Stuart® homogenisers are supplied with a tool kit for dismantling the rotor probes for easy cleaning.

New Techne TC-PLUS thermal cyclers offer speed, flexibility and ease of use
March 2010 sees the launch of new Techne thermal cyclers. The feature-packed TC-PLUS can be combined with Satellite units giving complete flexibility to configure any multi-block format. The new thermal cyclers have one of the fastest aluminium blocks on the market, delivering greater uniformity than a silver block and therefore more reproducible PCR results. The 5.7 inch VGA colour touchscreen with graphical display is intuitive and easy to use. All buttons are large enough for fingers – so no stylus, pen or spatula needed! The TC-PLUS features a unique CD-type sample drawer. The force used to push the drawer in also lowers the heated lid into position, applying the correct pressure onto the samples to prevent evaporation. This mechanism is entirely mechanical and doesn’t rely on motors. All consumable types can be accommodated, from 0.5ml tubes to 384-well plates, sealed with either heat or adhesive seals.Rob Skehens, Bibby Scientific Marketing Director, commented: ‘PCR is an important tool in many research, diagnostics, forensic and testing laboratories. The new Techne TC-PLUS thermal cyclers meet key needs for speed, flexibility and ease of use, as well as incorporating stand-out innovations such as the automatic non-motorised heated lid and energy-saving Thermal Energy Recovery System (TERSâ„¢).The stackable design and PC software enable multiple TC-PLUS cyclers and Satellites to be networked, for high throughput PCR, using 96-well or 384-well blocks. Satellite units can be controlled from the TC-PLUS server or a PC but have no user interface. The next generation PC software can be used with all current and previous generation Techne thermal cyclers.
There is a choice of easily interchangeable blocks – 96 x 0.2ml, 60 x 0.5ml and 384-well plate – all with gradient for efficient optimisation of PCR conditions. With over 20 years experience in the design and manufacture of thermal cyclers, Techne is established as a leading supplier and the TC-PLUS is covered by a 4-year warranty (4 years or 100,000 cycles for blocks).
Bibby Scientific will be exhibiting on stand B2.217 at Analytica 2010, 23-26 March in Munich, Germany.
Techne is a long established name and world leader in the manufacture of temperature control and essential equipment for the life sciences, research, clinical and general laboratories.
